Johnny, the Bible condemns murder. The OT said, "...an eye for an eye,a tooth for a tooth."
If you can't see the difference between murdering an innocent baby and killing a a murderer or rapist to prevent harm to others, Maybe you should reconsider your stand.
As for judging, the Bible also says, "By their fruits you shall know them" (matthew 7:16). This means that one's lifestyle WILL show you if they are Godly people. Not everybody who claims to be a Christian is. Jesus Himself said, "Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name? Did we not drive out demons in your name? Did we not do mighty deeds in your name?' Then I will declare to them solemnly, 'I never knew you. 11 Depart from me, you evildoers.' (Matthew 7:22-23). This, of course, means that many will claim to be saved who aren't. Hitler thought he was ridding the world of Jews for the good of mankind. The KKK thinks they are obeying God in persecuting blacks. They are NOT Bible Christians. Now, am I judging them as the Bible says - "Judge not that ye be not judged" (Matthew 7:1) - or am I seeing what a person is by his beliefs? One can be judged by his/her lifestyle what kind of person (s)he is. If (s)he lies and steals, (s)he's either not saved or is terribly backslidden. That's the one part we might not know unless we know the person very well...but we CAN tell that a murder is not a Godly person. They judge themselves by their sinful actions. We all sin, but a Christian regrets his/her sins because the hurt God. A lost sinner doesn't care about that.
If you are voting for one party or another just because you belong to that party, you're a moron. The idea of a public election is voting for the person you feel is best qualified for the job. Am intelligent Christian DOES vote according to conscience.
One thing worth mentioning is that I refer to born-again Christians...NOT those fools who are being placated by the "mega-churches." People like Joel Osteen don't talk about sin because they are afraid of offending people. (Ogteen's emphasis is in making his members financially sound...not spiritually saved and secure!) Jesus, John the Baptist, etc., were very blunt and condemning of those who refuse to turn to God. The whole Bible is about the Law of God, the results of disobedience, the pleasures of obedience, and the world's need of a Savior because man is continually sinful. According to the BIble, Jesus is the only way out of our path to eternal death. Now, if a person doesn't know (s)he's lost, (s)he thinks (s)he has no use of a Savior and therefore doesn't know God. If a pastor can't tell people they are sinners, he cannot possibly lead them to the Savior...and that's what the mega-churches are all about. They convince people that God will take them into heaven just as sinful as they are and no change is necessary.
Think about this: if we aren't converted but instead detest God, why would we ever be happy at the throne of God in the first place??
Alena, maybe you can now see that one's salvation doesn't depend upon how one votes, but one's relationship with God will DEFINITELY determine how one votes. If the Bible condemns murder and you support abortion, something's wrong. If you support homosexuality when the BIble condemns it, something is certainly wrong. I don't hate gays, but just what they stand for. They cannot intentionally and habitually do something God calls "an abomination" and claim to be His child.
PAUL: you're absolutely right! A politician or other public servant cannot force his religion upon others, but his/her Christian faith DOES guide him to make the correct moral decisions in his/her leadership position! Well said!

Wow, kudos to Wayne for setting up this site.

This is Norman Ng. I was good friends with Howard Mak then and I do remember Joey Chia. Howard, Alan Moy and a few others who I can't remember used to go over my house to celebrate some bdays with me.

Howard was like the smartest kid I knew..I wonder what he's up to these days.

Jenny Hsieh lived down the block from me in grade school and I used to play handball with his younger brother. I heard she's a lawyer now and living in the city.

Anyone know what ever happened to Ms. Brook(e)s? She'd always give out hamsters and kiss her students on the cheek leaving lipstick marks!

I actually went back last yr to visit and was talking to a random teacher outside. She said most of the teachers I mentioned are either retired or moved on. Mr. Saltz retired a few yrs ago.

I posted this as a blog on my myspace page during election season. I was a staunch Barack Obama supporter and many "Christians" (I use the term loosely as you can tell by the quotation marks) attacked me-- questioning my morals and my relationship with God. DO your RESEARCH! Judging from your post you don't even know what it means to be Pro-Choice. It's a lot about prevention so that abortion will be a non-issue. You should also know that the states who vote Republican have the HIGHEST rates of abortion --perhaps because they don't teach contraception and just assume that their children won't have sex then sweep it under the rug (i.e order their daughters to have an abortion, pretend she's still a virgin, and go to church on Sunday and put on a good "Christian" face??) Hmmm...
I would never have an abortion myself and don't think that anyone should. They should use preventative measures.
OH, and before you go accusing me of being a birth control using harlot! -- You should know that I will soon be 24 years old and I have never even had sex. Just because I'm a virgin, doesn't mean I have the right to tell everyone else how to live their life --but so many "Christians" think it is their right --apparently you're one of those "Christians" "BROTHER" !! Who you vote for is not a moral debate but if it were -- I would say that it's more moral to vote Democrat or Liberal because my Bible says that GREED is the root of all EVIL and Love thy neighbor!

Pro-choice describes the political and ethical view that a woman should have complete control over her fertility and pregnancy. This entails the guarantee of reproductive rights, which includes access to sexual education; access to safe and legal abortion, contraception, and fertility treatments; and legal protection from forced abortion. Individuals and organizations who support these positions make up the pro-choice movement.

Some people who are pro-choice see abortion as a last resort and focus on a number of situations where they feel abortion is a necessary option. Among these situations are those where the woman was raped, her health or life (or that of the fetus) is at risk, contraception was used but failed, or she feels unable to raise a child. Some pro-choice moderates, who would otherwise be willing to accept certain restrictions ..ion, feel that political pragmatism compels them to oppose any such restrictions, as they could be used to form a slippery slope against all abortions.

[1]

***********************************
Definition Explained:
First paragraph-- This includes the access to sexual education and contraception meaning that sex ed should be in schools and contraception should be available and free to women who need it to prevent pregnancy. So unless you are completely celibate or only have sex to make babies--this probably applies to YOU.

Denote second paragraph. "Some people who are pro-choice see abortion as a LAST resort and focus on a number of situations." There is a HUGE misconception on this issue and I feel it needs to be CLARIFIED by FACTUAL information, NOT stereotypes.

It does NOT mean that democrats and pro-choicers believe it should be used as a method of birth control! , which is why democrats propose that sex education be instituted in schools.

Also, VERY important to note--Some pro-choice moderates, who would otherwise be willing to accept certain restrictions ..ion (i.e Partial and Induced Abortions) feel that political pragmatism compels them to oppose any such restrictions,as they could be used to form a slippery slope against all abortions--MEANING that they cannot vote NO on these types of abortions because it could be regarded as contradictory and cause conflict about their stance ..ion even in cases of rape, incest, health concerns, etc.

SO--Before you go calling me immoral or my choice for president a baby killer---KNOW the FACTS.

If you go to wikipedia and type in pro choice, I believe that there is more information about how before Roe v Wade and abortion was illegal--It caused much more problems than it fixed.

It is also important to note how a young girl in middle or high school would be treated upon unplanned pregnancy. People will call her a whore and treat her really badly. If she does the noble act of giving it up for adoption, people will say "How could she?" There are also many young girls with bad home lives who may be beaten should they become pregnant.

Also important! America is the only country where adoption can be reversed meaning that it isn't final and a biological "mother" (I say that in quotations because mother would imply that she raised the child) can decide after say the child is 5, 10 years old that she has "cleaned up her act" and wants to take the child back. Imagine how awful this would be for the child and family who raised the child. This is, perhaps, the reason why many couples choose to adopt children overseas and not here.

Any questions? There's more on wikipedia and other sources.

Thanks:)

Hey Daniel - thanx man. We're gonna have to hook up one of these days next time I'm in your neck of the woods. I know I keep saying that but i think sooner or later it'll happen.

Wayne -- Forgive me for being so late to comment here, but I love your honesty. It's never just "being real" for its own sake, but with a genuine desire to live into the mission of God. I am deeply encouraged by your words. Count me in as someone who's eager to see what's next for you!

Wayne - Oh, you just went there! :)

You were very gracious in how you described the person who asked the question of why "they" always stick together. I think it's probably more reasonable to ask why "they" in the majority (who have access to power, resources, etc.) don't reach out to those different from themselves.

I get the feeling that even first-gen Korean Americans can live missionally in community and minister to those outside the Korean context. Now, I'd be hard-pressed to give a concrete example of an entire institutional church that does this, but I've seen pockets of it in many different places across the country. People who love Jesus and want to join in God's mission, wherever that might be (esp. at their workplaces).

The reality is, even second and third gen Asian Americans will still need a place to be accepted solely as "insider" -- the triple consciousness that Soong-Chan Rah describes in The Next Evangelicalism. I agree with you, though: the next gen is the key. Can we *be* the church for a broken and hurting world; can we be humble enough to recognize that we're not "bringing Jesus" anywhere, but that God is very much at work already, and can our pain lead to past alienation and into empathetic understanding of others who are not like us (whether ethnically, socio-economically, politically, etc.)?
