Lynden Fire

Shocked to find out that a recent fire in Lynden not only made state-wide news but hit so close to home. Friends of ours, a Korean couple, own the Loft japanese restaurant in the mini-mall that was affected; we just don’t know to what extent, if they suffered smoke damage or if it burned down. We’re headed out today to find out and offer our condolences to our friends… according to the Bham Herald: “Firefighters battle a fire at Delft Square, the historic Lynden Department Store building on Front Street, on Monday, June 9, 2008. The fire appeared to start on the third floor around 1 p.m. and caused an apparent total loss of the building and the collapse of its roof.” Upon further examining the pics, it looks like our friend’s restaurant is unsalvageable. Totally shocked. They’ve lost everything, apparently. Will be hooking up w/ them soon, updates coming.

Sorry to hear about your friends loss. I drove by when it was happening and saw it again yesterday, it looks like the whole building burned down and will have to be rebuilt.

just chatted with them and they are looking for a lawyer. They’ve pretty much lost everything (along with the other tenants in the building) and are having to start over. And they just had a kid…
They were insured but the deductible is really high from what they’re saying.

That is rough! I can imagine that they lost it all since the whole place was gutted. I hope everything works out for them. If they need anything let them know our number here.

It’s a real shame to see all those businesses go up in smoke like that. I hope your friends can get back on their feet soon enough. I Webmaster Eat Whatcom and I have moved the Lotf’s listing to the closed restaurant list. I hope to re-add them to the open restaurants list soon.

    Good day,
