The First Black Church in Bellingham

I’m privileged to preach at The House of Wisdom (no website yet) this upcoming Sunday, the first African-American congregation in Bellingham, WA – my guess is… ever. Pastor Anthony Westbrook and I have become friends and heard me preach on ethnic issues / identity and decided to invite me out. Needless to say I jumped at the opportunity although I’m not sure how to “bring” it in the traditional African-American sense. Asian and Black churches sometimes might look like polar opposites in style (except maybe during those intense Korean prayer meetings). Nonetheless I’ll preach the word. Oftentimes as messenger I feel inadequate (gotta work on that) but I have supreme confidence in the text and the prepared exegesis. That’s it. So how would you “bring it” in a cross-cultural setting?

Fantastic news, congratulations! How do you “bring it”? I think by being Wayne Park and uniquely Wayne Park. Whenever I’m silly enough to try to be somebody I’m not when I get my preach on, it’s really embarassing :-)

Hey how did this go? As an African American I can tell you this, if you preach the word and relate it to people’s lives than that is enough. The people will respond enthusiastically.

It went quite well; it was definitely very positive and I am interested in more ways to collaborate
